Employee Spotlight – Ryan Gorman

Meet Ryan Gorman.

Ryan has been with HR for over 6 years and is based out of Michigan. He was recently promoted to Vice President of Sales – Acute and Non-Acute Channels, where he is responsible for leading our sales team to meet and exceed our sales goals. Outside of HR, Ryan enjoys spending time with his family, fishing, and doing home improvement projects.

What is your role at HR?

What drew you to HR originally? And how has HR changed since?

It’s hard to imagine, but I represented HR as an independent rep shortly after Jon and Colby started the company and had only the 4oz & 2oz tube of HR Lubricating Jelly in the portfolio. In 2012, I had the opportunity to work in the field with Jon Wiesman, who came to Grand Rapids to work with me. In getting to know Jon professionally and personally, I was fascinated by the HR Story, Jon’s entrepreneurial spirit and vision for the company. I knew early on that I wanted to be part of something very special, and it holds true to this day. Truly amazing where HR has come since then!­

What does a typical day look like for you? 

I focus on networking/communicating with larger health systems whether current or prospective. I am always looking for the next opportunity to drive revenue and identify new business relationships. I also communicate with our distribution partners, GPO’s, and foster the growth of our sales team.

What is your favorite part of your job?

Having the confidence to know that whenever I pick up the phone or send an email that I represent a proud U.S. manufacturer with best-in-class products. I am also driven by knowing HR is dedicated to investing in people and resources for sustained growth.

What advice would you give to someone starting their career in sales?

A profession in sales is not for everyone, as it comes with a high level of stress and rejection, especially early on. The faster a sales rep gains confidence in themselves and what they are representing, the easier the days become. Selling is contagious and I am a firm believer in the saying “success breeds success.”

What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?

I enjoy spending time with my wife Anne, daughter Claire (9), and son Henry (7). Aside from family, I enjoy fishing and home improvement projects.

What is a fun fact about you many people may not know? 

I ran the Chicago Marathon many years ago and had a cameo on Man vs. Food.
